There appears to be no reliable published data detailing the energy sources used to generate electricity in New Zealand, who generates it and where. Statistics New Zealand, the government's source of figures about the country, give only a totally inadequate summary. The CIA World FactBook was no help either. So, if I wanted this information I would have to find it myself. I did a lot of Internet searching to find the complete set of companies and their generation plants together with the energy source and output for each plant. After I'd located everything I could, I totalled the tables and found that this figure agreed with the Statistics New Zealand total. At this point I concluded I'd found everything of interest and stopped. The final result of all this is the data set you can see below.
